Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question? You’re not alone! It may be answered below.
When should we take maternity or newborn photos?
Maternity sessions are best when scheduled between weeks 29 and 36.
Newborn sessions are best between birth and 10 days.
Do you pose newborns?
Short answer: Nope!
I believe the only perfection in the world is in a newborn. I strive to first and foremost keep them safe and comfortable during our session. Many poses you might see on social media or other sites are proven to not be safe for babies, and that’s not a chance I’m ever willing to take. I keep newborns calm and settled during our session and ensure their natural and pure goodness is what I capture.
How do I prepare for our session?
Preparing for your maternity session: To prepare for your session, try not to wear anything that will leave a mark on your skin (elastic waistbands, socks, and elastic hair bands worn on your wrist for example). Try wearing a light-fitting dress and sandals to your shoot, and if you can get away with it, no panties or bra. I will provide any draping used for your photos if you choose to use it. If you do want to bring an outfit or two, jeans or leggings/yoga pants with a tight-fitting tank top always look great, as do long maxi dresses or a tighter fitted knit dress. Avoid maternity clothes that are big and baggy.
Preparing for your newborn session: To prepare for your session, try to give the baby a good long feeding just before leaving home to get them sleepy. We mostly work with newborns in only a diaper. However, if you have sentimental items you want included feel free to bring them along. Parents and any siblings should expect to be in a few of the photos.
Please stay away from logos or patterns when choosing your outfit. I find that plain, white, black or gray clothing works the best. I also recommend that you bring something to change into just in case your baby pees on you during the session. And please know that if your baby pees or poops on me or anything in my studio, it is no big deal!! I get peed on at almost every session and everything is washable!
For all other family sessions, choose clothing that is simple. Stay away from anything with logos or patterns. And remember, well-fed, well-rested kids are happy kids. I have treats set aside for shameless bribing and rewarding, but you may want to bring some of your little’s favorite snacks.
